Installing a different OS
If you would like to run a different operating system or distribution on your server it can be installed manually in much the same way as it would be installed on a physical machine.
The first thing to check is that your desired OS is supported by KVM. The Guest Support page is often out of date but should give you a faily good idea of what will and will not run.
Accessing the keyboard, video and mouse
To use the console simply go to your My Servers page, select the server in question, and press the console button. Using the console gives you direct access to the keyboard, video and mouse of your VPS over a secure connection. There are also controls provided for changing the CD and resetting the VPS.
Using a boot CD
To begin installation of a custom OS start by inserting the installation disc. Click on the "Change CD" button to bring up a window listing the available CDs. If you would like to use a CD that is not listed you can choose the "External CD" option and specify a url. HTTP and FTP are currently supported and you can start using the CD immediately.
Next, reboot the VPS, and it will boot from the inserted CD. This can be done either from the console, or (if you do not care for the existing install) with a hard reset using the "Reset VPS" button.
The installation procedure
You should now be able to follow the installation procedure as you would with any physical computer. When you are finished remember to change the CD to "No CD" so that your VPS will boot normally.
